The Four Way Test
Rotary’s Four-Way Test is a set of ethical guidelines used by Rotarians to guide their personal and professional relationships. Created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932, the test has been adopted by Rotary International as a moral code for the organization’s members. It consists of four questions that Rotarians are encouraged to ask themselves when faced with a decision or action.
The Four-Way Test is a simple yet powerful tool that helps Rotarians maintain high ethical standards in their interactions and contribute positively to society.
Local Rotary Connections

Through joint projects and collaborative efforts, we uphold the Rotary values of service above self, fostering international understanding, and building lasting friendships. Our partnership with Rotary International enables us to amplify our efforts and achieve greater success in our mission.
Rotary History
Rotary International, founded on February 23, 1905, by attorney Paul P. Harris in Chicago, Illinois, began as a small gathering of professionals from diverse backgrounds. The aim was to foster camaraderie and mutual business support, promoting high ethical standards. The name “Rotary” originated from the group’s practice of rotating meetings among members’ offices.
The organization rapidly expanded beyond Chicago, forming new clubs in other U.S. cities and internationally, with the first non-U.S. club established in Winnipeg, Canada, in 1910. Rotary’s mission evolved to focus on humanitarian service, promoting peace, and addressing community needs. In 1922, Rotary adopted the name Rotary International, reflecting its global reach.
Rotary’s most notable initiative, PolioPlus, launched in 1985, aims to eradicate polio worldwide. This program has significantly contributed to reducing polio cases by over 99%. Today, Rotary International comprises over 35,000 clubs in more than 200 countries, with 1.2 million members dedicated to community service, fostering peace, and promoting goodwill.
